Recent Stock Sale II – April 2017

My strategy of selling positions in companies is getting to a climax, though, there could be couple of more companies to go through. I’d have some dry powder at the end of this exercise.

Last week, I completely sold positions in following 2 companies: PFE and TD. As I’ve said earlier, it is getting increasingly difficult to part these companies that I painstakingly built up over a period of time, however, I hope that I could purchase them at a better price at some point in future.

So far, I’ve sold 60 companies in my portfolio, with remaining companies close to 37, still a fairly decent size for a diversified portfolio. I consider it prudent to sell some of the companies while the market is offering better prices. All of these sells will put me a little behind in my race towards $3K in 3K.

Are you considering selling some companies to raise cash in near future?

  1. Always appreciate these updates to see what my fellow dividend investors are doing. Last week it was RY and BNS and now TD… Tough to see indeed. I’m sure you thought it over and over and over before pushing that sell button and I can only imagine the thoughts going through your head at the time. As you said, you still hold a pretty good size portfolio so you aren’t totally out of the game. Who knows… will a ‘sell in May’ phenomena occur this year? Time will tell.

    • Hi DH,

Absolutely, I’m finding selling companies to be a tough proposition and even tougher than buying. However, I want to keep some cash when that eventual correction comes along. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

    • Hi IH,

I was waiting for a correction, but, it has not come. In fact, market has rallied a bit in last few days. If correction does happen, I hope to buy at decent prices, rather than at current high valuations. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

    • Hi DM,

I really like canadian banks: BNS, RY and TD and as mentioned, I’m ready to buy them back at better prices. Currently, I’m looking to buy VZ and TGT. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
