Dividend Income Update – January 2016

I’ve completed 270 days of freedom race and it has been awesome with the great support of DGI bloggers. I’m truly blessed to be posting it from the country where Statue of Liberty stands. It stands for freedom and I hope to achieve my own financial freedom in 3000 days when I complete my race.

Wow. I crossed a milestone figure of $500 in passive income, holy molly cow. I’m super excited to write about my passive dividend checks that I received in month of January. They are now pouring into my account without doing any work. So far, I’ve got 66 fantastic companies in my growing Portfolio

I hope that this passive income report provides inspiration to all the readers out there that even when you are starting out fresh, you can still do it. Although, it is a long race: slow and steady, we can win it on our terms and time. Without further ado, here are dividends received:

Baxter Intl. Inc. (BAX) : $1.15
Bank of Nova Scotia (BNS): $19.92
Digital Realty Trust, Inc. (DLR): $42.50
Dr Pepper Snapple (DPS): $2.40
General Electric (GE): $11.50
GlaxoSmithKline (GSK): $54.90
JP Morgan Chase & Co. (JPM): $6.60
Main Street Capital Corp. (MAIN): $15.30
Altria Group, Inc. (MO): $50.85
Realty Income Corp. (O): $19.10
PepsiCo Inc. (PEP): $7.03
Phillip Morris Intl., Inc. (PM): $86.70
PennantPark Investment (PNNT): $28.00
Reynolds American Inc. (RAI): $7.20
STAG Industrials, Inc. (STAG): $8.05
Starwood Property Trust, Inc.(STWD): $45.60
Toronto-Dominion Bank (TD): $10.85
U.S. Bancorp (USB): $3.84
W.P. Carey, Inc. (WPC): $96.46

Total passive dividend income for January: $517.95.

Instead of getting a single salary once a month, I got paid by 19 fantastic companies throughout the month, simply by owning a tiny sliver of a slice. Imagine that there are thousands of people hired by those companies and that they are working for you, rather than, you working for them. This feeling of achieving financial freedom over 3000 days, is what drives me to keep racing and I’m sure readers alike!

Full Disclosure: Long on above mentioned stocks.

How did your passive dividend income come along in first month of new year?

    • Hi Mathew,

Thank you. Appreciate the kind words. My goal is to add $1 per day and if I’m able to do so over 3000 days, I’d reach my goal. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

    • Hi DB,

Yeah. Great beginning to the new year start that is appearing to be quite volatile so far. These dividends are like a lifeboat in the turbulent sea outta there. Appreciate the nice words. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

  1. R2R,

That’s a really good looking month! I just discovered your blog and I’m really digging it. You have a really aggressive dividend income goal. That definitely gets me motivated! Keep feeding the beast!!!

    • Hi MDP,

Glad that you discovered my blog and digging it. Welcome to this little corner. My goal is to achieve $3K over 3K days. I’m super happy that my blog has motivated you and hope others as well: that its possible to achieve FI even if you starts afresh. You just need to keep at it and keep nibbling here and there and one day, it’ll be a big snowball that will cover not just breakfast but lunch and dinner. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

    • Hi DFD,

Appreciate liking the companies in my portfolio, I try to keep focusing on blue chips with stable income stream. Hey, its fine to start small, keep adding to the pile and you soon on the way to growing stream. I also started from zero and consistency is the name of the game. Wish you all the best on your journey. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

    • Hi Hustler,

You are really killing with close to $30K and setting a benchmark for lot of folks. You are putting an awesome amount of capital over there and wish I’d some more capital to work, especially with the current market carnage taking place. Good luck on your goal of adding $100K this year. Thanks for stopping by as always, bud and commenting.

    • Hi R2R,

Appreciate the support and kind words as always. I very much like the chatter and growing other income over there 🙂 Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

    • Hi JC,

Yeah. I could not believe it also and it took some time for me to realize that I crossed the barrier of $500. It was a milestone figure in my journey to the first step of achieving $1K that I consider a magic number. Whenever it happens, it will indicate that I’ve covered 1/3rd of my FF journey, uncorking champagne is still away 🙂 Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

  2. Congrats on crossing that $500 milestone. With all those buys you are making every week your dividend income will snowball really fast. Nice to see a few names on common. You still hold quite a few high yielding companies for my taste. Thanks for sharing and look forward to your next buys.

    • Hi DH,

I’m trying to stay consistent by nibbling every week, if possible. If anyone does this, that will lay the path to success and in my case $3K in 3K. Glad that we have some of the similar gems that keep enriching us towards FI. Most of the companies in my portfolios are blue chips and if they yield a little bit high, I’m glad to take them. You are doing great there as well. Thanks for stopping by, as always and appreciate your perspective.

    • Hi Sharon,

Appreciate the kind words and support. Glad to achieve milestone of $500. Good luck on your FI journey. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

  3. What a way to start the year! $500 right off the bat! Nice work R2R! 19 companies is quite an impressive list for a normally slow month. I keep seeing GSK show up in everyone’s Jan payouts and I keep looking at them. I generally stay away from Biotech (not sure why) but I might just have to pick up some of them to get a nice dividend payer in an off month.

    • Hi ADD,

Yeah. Glad to have those 19 companies and get those paychecks. You do not need to ask your boss to give you a paltry raise of few %. Most of these companies raise dividends in range of 6-7% almost like clock-work.

Many of the biotech companies are over-valued but some of them are great to own like GILD, MRK and ABBV along with some pharma companies. As always, thanks for stopping by and adding your perspective.

    • Hi Team CF,

Glad to have achieved $500 in passive income that I’ve been waiting since last year. Appreciate very much for support. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

    • Hi IH,

Appreciate the support. Yeah. $500 is a nice milestone to achieve towards my goal of $3K. Once the passive income reaches a critical mass, rolling snow should gathers bigger snowball. Same here, I’m also excited to see how this year turns out, especially this volatile market providing so many opportunities and love to add more capital to work 🙂 Thanks for stopping by, as always and commenting
