Dividend Income Update – April 2016

I’ve completed 360 days of freedom race and it has been awesome with the great support of DGI bloggers. I’m truly blessed to be posting it from the country where Statue of Liberty stands. It stands for freedom and I hope to achieve my own financial freedom in 3000 days when I complete my race.

Wow. I crossed a milestone figure of $750 in passive income for second time this year. I’m super excited to write about my passive dividend checks that I received in month of April. They are now pouring into my account without doing any work. So far, I’ve got 89 fantastic companies in my growing Portfolio

I hope that this passive income report provides inspiration to all the readers out there that even when you are starting out fresh, you can still do it. Although, it is a long race: slow and steady, we can win it on our terms and time. Without further ado, here are dividends received:

Baxter Intl. Inc. (BAX) : $1.15
Bank of Nova Scotia (BNS): $28.49
Dr Pepper Snapple (DPS): $2.65
General Electric (GE): $11.50
GlaxoSmithKline (GSK): $153.32
The Kraft Heinz Co. (KHC): $8.63
Main Street Capital Corp. (MAIN): $30.60
Altria Group, Inc. (MO): $62.15
Merk & Co. Inc. (MRK): $9.20
Realty Income Corp. (O): $19.90
Phillip Morris Intl., Inc. (PM): $127.50
PennantPark Investment (PNNT): $42.00
Reynolds American Inc. (RAI): $25.20
STAG Industrials, Inc. (STAG): $14.48
Starwood Property Trust, Inc.(STWD): $76.80
U.S. Bancorp (USB): $6.38
W.P. Carey, Inc. (WPC): $146.13

Total passive dividend income for April: $766.08. Note: normally, JPM and TD dividends show up on April 30th but this quarter, it was received on May 2nd due to weekend. I’ve adjusted the amount for this month and will report it in May.

Instead of getting a single salary once a month, I got paid by above companies throughout the month, simply by owning a tiny sliver of a slice. Imagine that there are thousands of people hired by those companies and that they are working for you, rather than, you working for them. This feeling of achieving financial freedom over 3000 days, is what drives me to keep racing and I’m sure readers alike!

Full Disclosure: Long on above mentioned stocks.

How did your passive dividend income come along in April?

  1. Keep it up R2R. You’re killing it bud. Congrats on the Dividend Income. Wonderful feeling that you just can’t get enough. It’s too addicting.

    • Hi DH,

Appreciate the kind words! I know what a feeling you get when cash start hitting your hands. You are killing over there, bud. Its absolutely addicting, could not agree more. Once you have put enough dough with your hard work, its time to relax and enjoy the fruits of your labor. Could not wait when that magical $1K is reached! Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

    • Hi IH,

Yeah, its serious money. I’m looking for a month when $1K barrier is breached. That will be time to take out a small champagne, big one is reserved for $3K 🙂 Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

    • Hi ED,

I’ve been working very hard over last several months to bootstrap my passive income up to $1K as a first small step. Slow and steady is the best approach and keep at it. I’m sure you will reach your cherished land of FI. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

  2. Congrats on the positive month with so much passive income. It is a blessing to be able to park your money and get something in return. I hope to catch up to 790 a month 1 day. Good luck in 2016.

    • Hi El,

Appreciate the kind support. Definitely, its a blessing to reach such a passive income. Definitely, you will reach your target much earlier than you think, just keep at it: dividend growth and compounding magic will do the rest. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

  3. A pretty massive score for your April passive income stream. Your race is really starting to pay off handsomely especially with all those buys you make every month. You are doing the right thing by continually buying in all market conditions and look at how your passive income stream is flourishing. I like many of the names paying you but some I don’t ever see hitting my portfolios. Stick with quality for the long run. Thanks for sharing.

    • Hi DH,

Absolutely, we need to buy in all conditions as its impossible to predict the market: in fact, market will most likely do opposite of what our gut tells. I like to balance conservative stocks with some spicy ones to make the mix a little delicious. Having said that, I want to buy more consumer staples and discretionary but most of them are at stratosphere level, way over-valued in historical comparison and therefore, finding tough to buy. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

  4. Slow and steady wins the race 🙂

Really nice job on the income, $800 is a huge amount, a lot more than what we’ll get in a year lol. One day hopefully we’ll be earning as much as you just did. Thanks for inspiring.

    • Hi Tristan,

I’m glad that my post was able to inspire you and other readers alike; that’s precisely why I love posting them. I’m sure you will be able to achieve it in less time than you think, just keep at it: slow and steady is that beautiful key that opens magic kingdom!! Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

    • Hi TIMB,

Appreciate liking the holdings: keep in company of quality stocks and they will give you good company in your retirement! Time in market is more than important than timing the market. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

  5. Crushing it, just crushing it! Congrats on crossing $750 ones again R2R. Making such amazing progress. I love seeing that you also benefited from GSK’s special dividend. Why can’t every company pay a special cash dividend haha Wouldn’t that be nice?? I love the list of companies you receive dividend income from. Just a rock solid group of companies.

Keep the good times rolling. Looking forward to seeing your May results.

    • Hi Bert,

Appreciate it. Its amazing that I crossed $750, just could not believe it when I tallied it. GSK was special last month but, there are still risks with many patents expiring. Ha! If every company do that at-least once a yr., it’ll be awesome to all of us DGI investors, wouldn’t we love it! I’m still waiting for a month when that magic number of $1000 is crossed 🙂 Thanks for stopping by as always and commenting.

    • Hi BII,

Appreciate the kind words. Yeah, I’m working hard to get to next baby step of $1000 and $750 is nice to have. No, I don’t drip them and let them pile in the account and based on the relative valuation of all companies in my portfolio, make a decision to deploy the received capital. This helps to avoid buying over-valued stocks and maximize returns on new capital. Good luck in your journey. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
