Recent Stock Purchase V – December 2015

wow! what an end to the year!! could not believe. I added 5 more new companies:  on last day of the year on 31st Dec, though small positions. I plan to use these dividend growth stocks to grow my passive dividend income over coming weeks and months.

Below are the companies where I put my capital on towards my race for earning $3000 per month in 3000 days. Last month, I completed 210 days of my freedom race and crossed $400 in passive income for the first time. Without further ado:

1) Aflac Incorp. (AFL): 5 positions at $60.24 on 12/31
2) General Dynamics Corp. (GD): 5 positions at $137.00 on 12/31
3) Lockheed Martin Corp. (LMT): 5 positions at $216.39 on 12/31
4) Merck & Co. Inc. (MRK): 10 positions at $52.91 on 12/31
5) Qualcomm Incorp. (QCOM): 10 positions at $50.25 on 12/31

I always wanted to initiate above companies as my portfolio has become heavy in energy sector and does not have many finance, pharma, defense and tech companies. With the addition of these 5 new companies, I’m getting close to desired diversification across various sectors and addition of few more quality blue-chip companies would round off my portfolio. I’ve now 65 wonderful companies in my portfolio that I’ll update soon.

Full Disclosure: Long on above mentioned stocks.

What do you think about these new companies?

I added positions in 3 existing companies on Dec 28th. I plan to use these dividend growth stocks to grow my passive dividend income over coming weeks and months. Portfolio shows all my latest positions.

Below are the companies where I put my capital on towards my race for earning $3000 per month in 3000 days. Last month, I completed 210 days of my freedom race and it was exciting to have crossed $400 in passive income for the first time. Without further ado:

1) Gilead Sciences, Inc. (GILD): 5 positions at $101.63 on 12/28
2) HCP, Inc. (HCP): 10 positions at $38.23 on 12/28
3) Pfizer Inc. (PFE): 10 positions at $32.45 on 12/28

Over last weeks, I trimmed positions in Kinder Morgan, Inc. (KMI) and ONEOK, Inc. (OKE). This will help in tax loss harvesting and trim tax bills.

Overall, I’ve 57 wonderful companies in my portfolio after addition of 2 recent companies: ADM and VGR. I’m getting closer to desired diversification across various sectors and adding few more quality blue-chip companies would round off my portfolio.

2) HCP, Inc. (HCP): 30 positions at $36.57 on 12/21

Last few months, I’ve been buying several energy companies and it is no secret the pain DGI community and investors are enduring for holding them, with oil touching new lows. My portfolio got heavy weighted as a result of these buys and I decided to better balance it, resulting in trimming of Kinder Morgan Inc. (KMI) and also BHP Billiton (BHP). This will help in tax loss harvesting and trim tax bills also: hey, there is always a silver lining in every situation 🙂

Second Sale of 2015 – BHP Billiton

Its tough to sell the positions in companies that I evaluated them to be worthy of my portfolio of quality companies and hard earned capital used to build those positions. However, there are times when fundamentals change dramatically due to multitude of reasons. I believe that with we are in that period where energy segment is struggling to stay above the water, to say the least and it will be a while before it recovers.

I believe that BHP Billiton (BBL) is another company that I find fit to sell due to its deteriorating climate, charges related to Dam cleanup operations, commodities price slowdown and increasing cost of accessing capital. In order to protect the capital from further deterioration & reduce impact on passive income, I’ve decided to trim positions in BBL, though, still not completely sell them.

I sold 100 positions in BBL at $20.87 on 12/14. It was a tough decision for me to sell these positions. I’ll deploy this capital in other quality companies.

Full Disclosure: Long on above mentioned companies.

What do think about my decision to sell BBL.
